Nanjing Medical University (NMU), founded in 1934, is one of the top institutions of higher learning in China. As the name suggests, NMU is located in Nanjing, one of the four ancient Chinese capitals, a city which was a cultural, political and economical center in southern China and is currently the capital of Jiangsu province and an economical center in the Yangtze River Delta
NMU has a strong faculty team of 1470 registered faculty members, including 117 full professors, 175 associate professors, 185 supervisors of doctoral programs and 812 supervisors of master’s programs. NMU has 1 key laboratory at ministry level, 2 key laboratories co-established by the ministry and provincial government, 7 provincial key laboratories and research centers.
In recent years, NMU has launched an extensive exchange and cooperation with national and international higher institutions. The university has established bilateral and academic relationship with medical schools and scientific research institutions in USA, Canada, Britain, Germany, Japan, France and Australia. Some prestigious experts and scholars are conferred Nanjing Medical University honorary or guest professorship. Meanwhile, it has regularly sent teachers abroad for long-term study or short-term visits. Since 2002, the university has resumed enrollment of international students and students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. At present, the total number of international is over 500.

Program Description
Nanjing Medical University is recognized by WHO and the graduates of MBBS program are eligible to take the Medical Licensing Examinations held by the medical councils in different countries such as MCI, PMDC, USMLE, HPCSA, SCHS etc.
Teaching Objectives
The course aims to educate students to study basic theory and elementary knowledge in medicine, gain basic clinical skills of some common diseases diagnosis processing, have the primary treatment ability to urgent, difficult and severe symptoms, and be qualified for careers in hospitals, the medical and health units, medical science research departments as well as other organizations related medicine.

Fee structure
Every student should pay off the following fees on registration day:
Tuition: 34000 RMB per year
Accommodation fee: 5000 - 8000 RMB per person per year
Refundable deposit: 4000 RMB
Note:
In the first academic year our university supplies the following things for free:
1) bedding
2) textbooks
3) hospitalization insurance
4) laboratory clothes
5) physical examination
6) residence permission for one year
7) campus card (There is 200 RMB in it. This card can be used to buy food, bath and borrow the books from University's library.)
Study duration
6 years, including 1 year of internship in hospital
Internship
The following teaching hospitals are the allotted places where the international students will do their internship:
- The First Affiliated Hospital of NMU
- The Second Affiliated Hospital of NMU
- Nanjing First Hospital
- Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital
Students can choose to do the internship/training in China or in their home country. However, students should come back to take the final examination on Theory Test (internal medicine, surgery, surgery, and paediatrics) and Clinical Evaluation.
Requirement on Chinese Language
Applicants are required to pass HSK (band 3) before graduation; otherwise they cannot get the degree.
Withdrawal and Refunds
Request for withdrawal should be made in written form to School of International Education.
- Registration fee and tuition fee are not refundable.
- The accommodation fee refundable will be calculated by month. The total study time in a year is 10 and a half months. Students' leaving date will be decided by the date of approval of application in written form. Half of a month's accommodation fee is refundable if the application is approved before the 15th of each month (including 15th). If later than 15th, the refundable fee will be calculated from the next month.
Degree Awarded
On completing the requirements of the teaching program and passing the graduation examinations successfully, international medical undergraduates will be granted a graduation certificate and conferred a medical degree by Nanjing Medical University, if they meet the degree regulations of Nanjing Medical University. The English copy of the degree will state MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery).
Career
After obtaining MBBS Degree, the graduates can apply to take the medical licensing examination in the medical council in order to get registered and practice medicine. According to the regulations in different countries, the students may need to do the degree accreditation first. A MBBS degree holder can find jobs in government as well as private hospitals, nursing homes and other health facilities. Except this, one can also start his own clinic or pursue study for master's degree.
